Item Title:Approval of Recommendations for Phase II Planning for New Innovative Programs (5 Mins/Action)

Background:A new round of Request for Proposals (RFP) began in November 2013.  The new process includes two different applications, one for new innovative programs/magnet schools and one for replications of existing programs. A Board of Education approval is required for proposals to move forward.  Replication programs are scheduled to open in August 2015; new programs or schools will open in August 2016.

At the June 24th Board of Education meeting, a recommendation was presented for two new innovative programs for Phase II, Planning and Development. The programs that presented were:  Franklin Elementary School Science FOCUS2 Program, and Henry Haight Elementary School's Science Practice through English Arts and Knowledge (SPEAK) program.  Tonight we are seeking approval for the allocation of funds ($7,000.00 per school) for planning and development only.  Analysis of the program proposals will be brought to the Board in May 2015.
