October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Millions of children live in families affected by domestic violence, and learning disabilities are common among children living in homes with domestic violence. Schools often play a role in creating a more stable environment by modeling and teaching alternatives to violence, thus acting as a resource and support to families.

In recognition of this important awareness month, the Alameda Unified School District Board of Education declares Alameda public schools Domestic Violence Free Zones.
