Background:

Girls Inc. of the Island City (GIIC) began offering free school based, afterschool programs in 2009 at two elementary schools. Between 2010 and 2013, GIIC has conducted 2-3 programs per year during in-school time and afterschool at an average of 3 schools per year.  This year GIIC has increased the number of school based programs offered to 9 schools and impacting 175 girls:

  • Bay Farm Elementary
  • Lum Elementary
  • Otis Elementary
  • Paden Elementary
  • Paden Elementary
  • Wood Middle School
  • The Academy of Alameda
  • Encinal Jr. Jets
  • Encinal High School

 Tonight GIIC will provide an overview of the programs, delivery models, and outcomes.
