The District is conducting a community process to gather input on the concept to modernize both Alameda High School and Encinal High School or consolidate the two comprehensive high schools into one comprehensive high school for Alameda Unified School District.
There are two community meetings scheduled for 7:00 pm on January 29 at Wood Middle School and 7:00 pm on February 5th at Encinal High School. The purpose of the meetings is to share research gathered to date and solicit input from the attendees regarding the desire to consolidate or not. There is a Board Study Session scheduled for February 17th at Alameda High School to discuss the topic.
A summary of the research conducted to date will be provided to the Board tonight. The research includes an internet search of various sources providing information on the size of a successful high school. A summary of the literature indicates the actual size of the high school cannot be definitely proven as beneficial, as research cites both advantages and disadvantages to small, medium and large high schools.
