| Background: | With the election of a sitting Board of Education member to a new office, a seat on the Board will become vacant no later than December 15, 2014. The Education Code gives the Board two options for filling the vacant seat: calling a special election or appointing an applicant. The Board must act to fill the seat within 60 days.
