ALAMEDA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
SPECIAL AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:High School Facilities of the Future Discussion (Information)
Item Type:Information
Background:

As part of the adoption of the Facilities Master Plan in June 2014, the Board included the decision to publicly discuss the future facilities of the high schools in AUSD, specifically whether to maintain two comprehensive high schools or consolidate into one new high school campus.

The District is conducting a community process to gather input on the concept to modernize both Alameda High School and Encinal High School or consolidate the two comprehensive high schools into one comprehensive high school for Alameda Unified School District.

There were two community meetings on January 29 at Wood Middle School and on February 5th at Encinal High School. The purpose of the meetings was to share research gathered to date and solicit input from the attendees regarding the desire to consolidate or not.

At tonight’s Board Study Session at Alameda High School, the Board will discuss the topic.

Based on the community input, the Board study session content, and the results of a public survey, Staff will recommend action on the February 24th board meeting to keep the two comprehensive high schools or to consolidate into one school.
