ALAMEDA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
BOARD AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:Resolution 2014-2015.87 in Support of Senate Bill 277: End California’s Vaccine Exemption Loophole
Item Type:Consent
Background:Currently, California law requires school districts to admit unvaccinated students whose parents certify that they have a “personal belief” against vaccinations. The majority of states do not have an equivalent exemption.

With the increase in outbreaks linked to vaccine-preventable diseases in California, a bill has been introduced in the State Senate (SB 277) to repeal the personal belief exemption. District policy strongly supports the immunization of District students. This resolution would carry out Board policy by endorsing SB 277 as a means to increase student safety by eliminating the personal belief exemption.
