| | | | | | | | | Item Title: | Recognition of Edison Elementary School Employees for their Service | | Item Type: | Consent | | Background: | On February 23, 2015, Edison Elementary School faculty and staff went into lockdown and then moved students into classrooms and kept them safe while an agitated intruder walked through campus. With the immediate response from the office staff, the Alameda Police Department was called while other staff members, including the principal and school psychologist, kept a watchful eye on the intruder and eventually were able to redirect him to the office until the police arrived.
Our heroes are those Edison Elementary School faculty and staff members who immediately notified the office of an intruder, stepped into action during the lockdown, and protected students until the police were able to contain the situation. For that work, Assembly member Rob Bonta has recognized these heroic employees with an Assembly Resolution that will be presented to every Edison Elementary School faculty and staff member.
CSEA Area C Director Cindy Zecher will also be in attendance to present the Outstanding Service Award, one of the highest honors in CSEA to the following CSEA members for their participation in keeping our students safe: Paraprofessionals Elaine Anderson-Barrett, Stephanie Bailey, Molly Blair, Jenny Dow, Lisandra Diaz, Stan Gurfinkel, and Julie Kemp; Sandy Wong Custodian Efren Estanque; Office Manager Nicci Woodward; and Health Office Assistant Heidi Kolden.
It is with great pride and pleasure that Alameda Unified School District recognizes and honors those who protected Edison Elementary School students, families, and staff when an intruder entered their campus.
AUSD thanks these employees for their service to the District, to Edison Elementary School, and especially to the safety of our students and families.
