|Item Title:||Resolution No. 2016-2017.24 in Support of Proposition 58, The LEARN (Language Education, Acquisition, and Readiness Now) Initiative Public Education Act (Senate Bill 1174),|
In 1998, voters approved Proposition 227 requiring that all students be taught in Englishand that English learners be taught in sheltered English-immersion courses. Proposition 58, a ballot initiative which will appear on the November 2016 ballot, would repeal those provisions. It would also require pupils to be taught in structured English-immersion programs for the purpose of providing access to core academic standards and that school districts provide effective and appropriate methods for language acquisition programs.
If approved, this resolution would show the Board’s support for the LEARN Initiative.
