Alameda County Office of Education secured a K12 Strong Workforce Grant, STEAM Ahead, that included $45K in funding that is designated to support specific AUSD Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways. The funding will support the creation of a new CTE pathway at Island High School focused on Engineering and Design.
The initial course was developed with input from the Director of the College of Alameda’s FabLab. Island students will be able to access the college’s FabLab to manufacture designs that they make utilizing design software (Note: FabLab access will be granted when school returns to in-person learning).
Additional grant funding designated for Island High from CSI (Continuous School Improvement) ESSA (Every Student Success Act) will be used to pay for staff support. Priority will be to identify future grant funding to ensure sustainability of this CTE opportunity.
