Governor Newsom submitted his 2021-2022 State Budget proposal to the legislature on January 8, 2021.
The budget proposal includes significant investments in the K-12 education system made possible due to the unexpected turnaround in the State revenue. The proposal also includes creating various categorical resources rather than providing unrestricted funds for Schools Boards to make local decisions.
Unlike previous years, Governor Newsom highlighted certain budget proposal items for early action in order to allow school districts to resume in-person instruction and to allow planning time for expanded before/after school programs and summer school.
The Governor will provide his revised 2021-2022 budget proposal in May 2021.
Tonight, staff will provide a briefing on the Governor’s budget proposal for the fiscal year 2020-2021.
