| Item Title: | District Covid-19 Safety Plan - Public Input as Required by Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER3) (5 Mins/Information) | | Item Type: | Information | | Background: | The American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021, Public Law 117-2, was enacted on March 11, 2021. The ARP Act provides additional funding for school districts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Education portion of ARP is known as the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III or ARP ESSER) Fund. The purpose of the ESSER III fund is to support the safe reopening and sustaining safe operations of schools while meeting students' academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of receiving ESSER III funds, a District must create a COVID-19 Safety Plan (CSP) detailing how they will maintain student and staff health and safety. The plan must be updated no less than every six months and must include public input when necessary.
AUSD’s original CSP was approved by the Alameda County Health Department on November 12, 2020.
In late December 2020, Governor Newsom introduced the new requirements set by the California Department of Public Health in its “Safe Schools for All” plan. At the January 12, 2021 and January 26, 2021 meetings, the Board approved updates to the CSP to align to these new requirements. In early February 2021, the Alameda County Office of Education as well as the California Public Health Department approved AUSD’s CSP.
