Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) schools have operated in a hybrid model, combining in-person and virtual instruction, since March 15, 2021 following a period of complete virtual learning at the height of the COVID-19.
Governor Newsom has reiterated that distance learning statutes will expire at midnight on June 30, 2021, and that families can expect a return to full-time, in-person education for fall 2021.
State and County officials have indicated that on June 15, 2021, as a result of continuously improving health metrics across the state and an expanding number of vaccines administered, the state will move beyond the tiered system outlined in the Blueprint for a Safer Economy.
The Board of Education for the Alameda Unified School District recognizes the critical importance of providing in-person educational opportunities and is committed to safely expanding those opportunities. The Board further recognizes that the health and safety of students and staff is the District’s highest priority and the District has planned extensively to expand in-person educational opportunities in a manner that best serves District students and mitigates against the risks of COVID-19.
Alameda Unified School District’s Board of Education directs the Superintendent and staff to resume full-time, in-person instruction on a 5 days per-week schedule at all schools beginning on August 16, 2021 with full contractual class sizes and full-day schedules. AUSD shall continue to adhere to state and county public health guidelines issued for schools and shall also prepare additional plans that would adhere to anticipated public health guidelines in the event that community transmission rates increase and schools need to adjust their instructional programs.
