ALAMEDA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
BOARD AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:Approval of Superintendent's Recommendation to Appoint Members to the Measure I Bond Oversight Committee (5 Mins/Action)
Item Type:Action
Background:

A Proposition 39 general obligation bond measure requires the creation of a Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (BOC).  AUSD voters approved Measure I in November 2014 with 62.75% approval.

Two members of the BOC have served on the committee since its inception in 2015. Per the adopted bylaws, “Except as otherwise provided herein, each member shall serve a term of two (2) years, commencing as of the date of appointment by the Board. No member may serve more than three (3) consecutive terms…members whose terms have expired may continue to serve on the Committee until a successor has been appointed.” For continuity purposes and in consideration of the difficulty in filling open positions, staff and existing members agreed at their April 7, 2021 committee meeting to present updated bylaws to the Board. The Board of Education approved these updated bylaws at their May 11, 2021 meeting which allows for members to serve more than three consecutive terms as long as both members reapply for their positions and the District continues to advertise the openings.  Both original members have reapplied, and in addition an application was received for the open Parent in a PTA position.

Superintendent Scuderi recommends the following for membership:

1.         Senior Citizen: Don Sherratt

2.         Parent in Alameda: John Baum

3.         Parent Active in PTA: Ryan LaLonde

Other members continuing their service on the Bond Oversight Committee for 2020-2021 include:

      4. Business Representative: Liana Hans

      5. At-Large #1: Sarah Olaes

              6. Taxpayer Organization: Rohit Reddy

As before, the District will continue to advertise for additional applications from the community for the remaining opening of an At-large #2 position.
