BOARD AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:Update on Measure B Facilities Bond (10 Min/Information)
Item Type:Information
Background:

On February 17, 2022, the Board of Education approved Resolution No. 2021-2022.41 to order the election with the Registrar of Voters and seek authority from the electors of Alameda to issue facilities bonds in the amount of $298 million. 56.34% of Alameda voters approved the measure on the June 7, 2022 primary election ballot.

The ballot measure was based in part on project listed in the addendum to the 2014 Facilities Master Plan. That addendum, in turn, was developed via school site community meetings and public meetings of the Board of Education. During this process, multiple options for bond project allocation were presented. Ultimately, the Board adopted “Option 3,” which allocated the $298 million bond revenue to modernizing classrooms, updating athletic facilities, and improving visual and performing arts spaces at AUSD secondary schools, as well as constructing a new classroom building to replace the main building at Otis Elementary School.

Tonight, staff will provide a recap of projects to be funded by Measure B and update the Board on projects still in progress under the Measure I Facilities Bond program.
