Background:

Tonight, AUSD staff and Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA) will present the schematic design for Encinal Jr & Sr High School New Gymnasium Project for Board approval. The design follows the district’s updated Facilities Master Plan, Measure B approved project list, critical facility needs identified per Measure I (prior Bond measure), as well as established priorities acknowledged in design committee meetings, including site design committee (comprised of school site staff, district staff, and QKA) meetings on:

  • November 6, 2024
  • December 11, 2024
  • Next meeting scheduled for April 17, 2025

This project includes a new, full-size gymnasium with multisport court striping and bleachers, a weight room, and  lobby with toilet rooms as described in the July 5, 2022 Board approved Master Plan Update.

 

Per new requirements of Proposition 2, this approval is held as a public hearing and invites members of the community to comment on the project design. The community was notified of the public hearing on April 4, 2025, and proof of publication is uploaded to this item. 

 

Following Board approval, QKA will prepare detailed designs for submission and approval to the Division of the State Architect. Bidding of the contract is planned for Spring of 2026 and construction on this project is estimated to begin in the Summer of 2026.
