Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda (CASA) and KyotoUSA produced the proposed Solar Master Plan (SMP), which was presented to the Board in spring 2014. Staff analyzed the SMP and presented the outcome of that analysis at the September 9, 2014 board meeting. The recommendation of Staff was not to adopt the proposed SMP and to produce a comprehensive Energy Master Plan (EMP) addressing efficiency, conservation, and generation in all categories of electricity, water, gas, and waste.
Reflecting upon community input, staff is returning with the proposed Solar Master Plan for adoption and attachment to the AUSD Facilities Master Plan. Staff reinforces the idea that the proposed SMP is a planning document that can help guide AUSD in the future as it reviews all possible resources and viability for potential implementation.
Each future construction project in AUSD will go through the Board for review and action. “Alameda Unified School District is committed to energy efficiency and minimizing their carbon footprint. To that end, each improvement project will seek to take advantage of available energy and cost saving measures whenever possible. During the programming and schematic design, photovoltaic systems will be evaluated for their initial and long-term savings potential.” (FMP, pg. 14)
Staff reminds the public and reiterates that the Board will make all decisions on project scope, project timelines, and project budgets of all construction projects in AUSD.
