| Background: | The Davis Family Foundation approached Earhart Elementary School in the fall of 2013 regarding the commission of a bronze statue from artist Jane DeDecker, depicting a life size Amelia Earhart preparing to leave on a flight. The Davis Family Foundation donated the cost of the statue to the Frank Bette Center for the Arts, and artist Jane DeDecker worked with the Frank Bette Center and AUSD staff on the details of the design.
The statue is scheduled to be installed this month and will be located in front of the school adjacent to Packet Landing Road, allowing it to be visible to the entire community. This generous gift reminds us of the incredible contributions Amelia Earhart made to aviation. |
