ALAMEDA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
BOARD AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:Lum School Relocation Feasibility Planning: Follow-up Information and Possible Enrollment Scenarios (30 Mins/Information/Direction)
Item Type:Information/Board Direction
Background:

At the special Board of Education meeting on April 28th, the Board heard from district staff, consultants, and the Lum community. As a result of the feedback we heard from community stakeholders and Board members, Board President Gary Lym and Superintendent Sean McPhetridge decided the Board would postpone its decision on Lum to May 23rd, so that more information can be gathered.

At the Board of Education meeting held on May 9th, staff gave the Board and community information about possible enrollment scenarios in the event the Board decides to relocate Lum students to alternate school sites for the 2017-2018 school year. The Board gave feedback and asked for more information to be presented, including exploration of an option to move more students to Ruby Bridges Elementary, despite its distance from Lum Elementary School.

Staff listened to Board and community feedback and administered a survey to Lum parents to see what their priorities are for alternate school site locations. The results of that survey will be presented tonight, along with the additional information requested by the Board.

The public can find up-to-date press releases, FAQs, and meeting information for the situation at Lum Elementary School on the district’s website.
