Item Title:Report on Special Education Plan for Continuum of Services (10 Mins/Information)
Item Type:Information
Background:

A continuum of special education services includes:

  • General Education Push-in: Student is able to access curriculum content and understand essential concepts with periodic supplemental support and curriculum adaptation by special education staff. The goal for general education push-in is that the student will reach grade level Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

  • Strategic: Student is able to access grade level curriculum and content but requires extensive accommodations and adaptations and a slower pace to meet all essential standards; or disability and/or behavioral needs require a smaller/specialized setting in order to derive educational benefit. The goal for strategic intervention is that the student will receive strategic support and supplemental curriculum in a special education setting.

  • Intensive: Student is not able to access grade level curriculum and content. Student requires intensive remediation in foundational skills in order to make progress toward grade level standards. (For 5th graders, this would be 2 or more grade levels behind.) The goal for intensive intervention is the student will build foundational skills necessary to reach grade level Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in a special education or special day class (SDC) setting.

By offering these services at school sites that are consistent, it helps students, guardians, and families build a community at their school site. If the student is in an intensive class, the goal is that the student will follow the same "feeder pattern" school as their peers for middle and high school to help to strengthen a sense of community for all students.
