Alameda Point Collaborative (APC) has applied for and received conditional approval to acquire the Federal Center on McKay Avenue near Crab Cove.
APC has a long history of helping Alameda families overcome the trauma of homelessness to live successful lives, and APC and AUSD have partnered successfully on several initiatives, including back-to-school drives, summer employment, and after-school programming to promote academic success of resident youth. Alameda County and the City of Alameda have both seen a sharp increase in homelessness in the last few years.
APC intends to establish a Senior Housing and Medical Respite Center on McKay Avenue to provide critically needed housing for vulnerable homeless seniors and medical respite for homeless individuals being discharged from hospitals needing aftercare. The facility will also include a Resource Center that will provide critical support and case management for Alameda individuals and families who are at risk of becoming homeless or recently homeless. AUSD students who are homeless and their families can directly benefit from the services of the Resource Center.
Per the request of community and Board members, staff asks the Board to discuss their values regarding the establishment and operation of the Senior Housing and Medical Respite Center on McKay Avenue by considering this resolution.
