ALAMEDA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
BOARD AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:Update on Process for Bias Related Incident Tracking and Reporting (10 Mins/Action)
Item Type:Information
Background:

AUSD Board Policy 5145.3 requires the district to maintain a record of all reported cases of unlawful discrimination, including discriminatory harassment, intimidation, or bullying, to enable the district to monitor, address, and prevent repetitive prohibited behavior in district schools.

To effectively maintain such a record, AUSD is implementing the use of a Bias-related Incident Tracking tool.  This tool uses an existing software platform, Laserfiche, which is used by staff to submit other information such as workplace injury reports.  The Bias-related Incident Tracking form within this tool will require staff to submit a brief report of incidents following their documentation within existing systems.  This will compile all data in a centralized location, allowing for reporting across time and school site/department by type of incident or protected class characteristic.

The tool was presented to principals in the spring and summer of 2018 and has been in use since the start of the 2018-19 school year. This presentation also describes AUSD’s communications protocol for bias-related incidents.
