In February 2016, the Board directed staff to offer a longer day Kindergarten program at all elementary schools beginning in the 2016-2017 school year. The program was implemented in August 2016. In August 2017, paraprofessional support was provided to Kindergarten classes as a pilot program to support small group instruction.
In April 2018, the Board confirmed the elimination of the longer day Kindergarten program effective 2019-2020 and the discontinuation of paraprofessional support for small group instruction effective in the 2019-2020 school year.
In September 2018, staff presented the Board with information on recent Kindergarten program decisions and a transition plan for 2019-2020. The transition plan included a timeline, staff engagement process, and steps on engaging the community. This Board agenda item includes the same content as the Board saw in September, with the addition of the Kindergarten enrollment schedule and a list of ways staff have reached out to the community to communicate this Kindergarten schedule change.
