Maintenance staff members are responsible for the routine maintenance of our school facilities. This includes electrical, carpentry, painting, heating/ventilation (HVAC), and plumbing trades. Lately, the District has struggled to hire employees in the mentioned trades, primarily due to the higher salaries available in the private construction industry.
Over the last year, the District has operated without any electrical and HVAC technician on staff, and with partial staffing in plumbing and carpentry. All electrical and HVAC related work is being contracted to outside vendors. This has not only resulted in higher costs for the District but also delayed work.
The annual cost of this reclassification would be approximately $235,000 and will be paid out of the District’s Restricted Routine Maintenance Account.
