Each year millions of children and youth are at risk of exposure to domestic violence. Learning disabilities and developmental delays in verbal, cognitive, and motor skills are common among children living in homes with domestic violence. Additionally children from violent homes have a high risk of alcohol/drug use, post-traumatic stress disorder, and juvenile delinquency. 

On October 13, 2016 the Alameda Unified Board of Education approved a resolution declaring Alameda Public Schools Domestic Violence Free Zones. In support of that resolution, tonight we proclaim October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
