Item Title:Approval of Secondary Course Descriptions: Sports Medicine 2, Marketing 1, Marketing 2, and Advanced Principles of Biotechnology & Chemistry "Biotech 2"

Background:

This item proposes the revision of three secondary courses to more accurately articulate them within an established Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathway. 

 

Sports Medicine 2: This CTE course was updated to incorporate Emergency Medical Responder training. 

Prerequisite: Sports Medicine 1

Elective/Required: Elective

Grade Level: 11 & 12

Subject Area: CTE

Length: One year

Credits: 10

NOTE: AUSD will be resubmitting our application to the be certified by the Alameda County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division to offer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training. The District's initial application was denied because the agency deemed that our lead instructor did not have sufficient field experience as an EMT to teach the EMT course. The District revised the course to incorporate the Emergency Medical Responder curriculum that does not require official certification from Alameda County EMS Division.

 

Marketing 1: This CTE course was updated and submitted to UC Doorways and received approval to be offered as a "G" elective

Marketing 2: This CTE course was updated and submitted to UC Doorways and received approval to be offered as a "G" elective. Alameda Chamber of Commerce has agreed to co-develop a Junior Chamber of Commerce program that will engage students from Marketing 2. The activities with the Chamber of Commerce are outlined in the addendum in this course description.
