ALAMEDA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
BOARD AGENDA ITEM

Item Title:Bias-Related Incident Tracking Report (10 Mins/Information)
Item Type:Information
Background:

AUSD Board Policy 5145.3 requires the district to maintain a record of all reported cases of unlawful discrimination, including discriminatory harassment, intimidation, or bullying, to enable the district to monitor, address, and prevent repetitive prohibited behavior in district schools.

To effectively maintain such a record, AUSD has implemented the use of a Bias-Related Incident Tracking (BRIT) tool.  This tool uses an existing software platform, Laserfiche, which is used by staff to submit other information such as workplace injury reports.  The BRIT form within this tool requires staff to submit a brief report of incidents following their documentation within existing systems.  This will compile all data in a centralized location, allowing for reporting across time and school site/department by type of incident or protected class characteristic.

Tonight's report includes a summary of data collected through the BRIT tool for the fall/winter of 2019.
