Following the Board’s initial direction to explore the development of a graduate profile last Spring, staff has conducted extensive engagement with a variety of stakeholder groups since July to develop a Graduate Profile.
After several engagements and workshop sessions staff is presenting the current draft to the board this evening, and, following additional student engagement this month staff will bring a final proposed draft back to the Board in mid-February along with updates on the mission, vision, and guiding principles that were discussed on December 17th.
Unlike a mission or vision statement, a graduate profile is a document that a school or district uses to specify the cognitive, personal, and interpersonal competencies that students should have when they graduate.
Co-created with input from key stakeholders, this draft profile is a clear visualization of priority goals for teaching and learning that can be easily communicated to students, parents, faculty, and staff to align their collective efforts.
The inherent rationale or theory of action for a graduate profile asserts that identifying and prioritizing these competencies to guide our efforts on behalf of students in effect creates a shared vision of our destination and helps align our actions with a set of stated goals and values.
