On March 13, the Board of Education suspended in-class instruction through April 3. Since then, the suspension has been twice extended – first to April 30 and, most recently, through the end of the school year (June 8, 2020).
For the first three weeks, students were provided with optional digital and non-digital distance learning opportunities. On April 6, the district launched formal Distance Learning Opportunities facilitated by teachers and guided by suggested schedules for all grades. At the same time, all other AUSD departments have also been working to manage and adapt to conditions created by this global pandemic.
On April 14, Superintendent Pasquale Scuderi and members of his Executive Cabinet team presented to the Board and public an update on how the AUSD is responding to COVID-19. This update included reports from Human Resources, Business Services, Teaching and Learning, Student Support Services, and Community Affairs. Particular detail was paid to the implementation of the formal Distant Learning Opportunities and insights gathered over the first week of that implementation.
Tonight, Superintendent Pasquale Scuderi and members of his Executive Cabinet team will present an update on the progress made with Distance Learning Opportunities since its implementation in early April.
